Adamawa State

Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (born 27 October 1967) has served as Governor of Adamawa State since 29 May 2019, re-elected in 2023 and defecting from the PDP to the APC in February 2026. A former Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, he twice served as acting governor before his own election.

Adamawa State was created on 27 August 1991 from the former Gongola State, under the military government of General Ibrahim Babangida. Its capital, Yola, was historically the seat of the Adamawa Emirate, part of the Sokoto Caliphate, and the state's eastern border forms part of Nigeria's frontier with Cameroon.

Home to Sukur, Nigeria's only UNESCO World Heritage Site recognised for its ancient cultural landscape, and Nigeria's largest game reserve.

Agriculture and livestock rearing dominate the state economy, with cotton, groundnut, and maize as leading crops, alongside significant cattle and goat herding.
