Governance
Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed (PDP, born 3 October 1958) has served as Governor of Bauchi State since 29 May 2019, re-elected in 2023. A former journalist, Senator for Bauchi South, and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, he holds degrees from the University of Maiduguri.
History
Bauchi State was created on 3 February 1976 from the former North-Eastern State. The Bauchi Emirate, established in the early 19th century as part of the Sokoto Caliphate, gives the state much of its Hausa-Fulani cultural character. Its territory once extended further east before Gombe State was carved off in 1996.
