Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (APC) has served as Governor of Gombe State since 29 May 2019, re-elected in 2023. A retired banker before entering politics, his administration has emphasized education and civil service reform under the state's 'Gombe Goes Green' and infrastructure renewal programs.
History
Gombe State was created on 1 October 1996 from the former Bauchi State, under the military regime of General Sani Abacha. Nicknamed the 'Jewel in the Savannah,' its capital city of Gombe was the seat of the historic Gombe Emirate.
